Ted Pella microscope cover glass no. 2
Diagram of the cross-section of the flow cell when air is inserted into the viewing chamber for imaging. Light from the <t>microscope</t> passes through the top cover glass and through the biofilm. Light reflected from the biofilm/air bubble interface returns to the microscope and creates an interference pattern on the camera when it combines with light reflected from a reference arm in the objective lens. A vertical scanning range is selected to avoid light reflected from the top surface of the coverglass and any lower interfaces. This configuration allows for non-destructive imaging of a biofilm attached to the top cover glass. Biofilm on the opposing surface can be imaged by inverting the flow cell.
